Temporary closure of the E30 highway between Pelileo, Baños Puyo due to the 2026 Walk of Faith

The E30 highway between Pelileo, Baños Puyo, in the province of Tungurahua, will be closed from 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, due to the Walk of Faith in the canton Baños Agua Santa.

Here's what the religious pilgrimage between Ambato and Baños will look like

The province of Tungurahua will once again host one of its most iconic religious events with the 2026 Walk of Faith, scheduled for Friday, March 27. The event will bring together dozens of pilgrims who will walk from Ambato to Baños Agua Santa as part of this traditional expression of devotion.

The program will begin with a Mass at 6:00 p.m. at the Iván Vallejo Sports Center in Ambato. Following the religious ceremony and the blessing of the attendees, the procession is scheduled to begin around 7:00 p. m.

During the pilgrimage, the faithful will walk nearly 40 kilometers to reach the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Agua Santa in Baños. As is the case every year, many participants will complete the journey in the early hours of the following morning.

Due to the large number of pilgrims, traffic restrictions will be in place on the E30 highway between Ambato, Pelileo, and Baños starting around 4:00 p.m . on Friday. The measure is intended to ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage and reduce risks on the road.

The Red Cross will provide support along the route at various points, with staff on hand to assist anyone who becomes fatigued, feels unwell, or experiences any emergency during the walk.
