Temporary closure of the E30 highway between Pelileo, Baños Puyo due to the 2026 Walk of Faith

The E30 highway between Pelileo, Baños Puyo, in the province of Tungurahua, will be closed from 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, until 6:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, due to the traditional Walk of Faith taking place in the canton Baños Agua Santa.

The event takes place every year in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary of Agua Santa during Holy Week.

This procession is one of the most iconic expressions of devotion in Baños Agua Santa. It takes place every Good Friday afternoon and begins at the canton’s main church.

During the pilgrimage, the faithful walk approximately 40 kilometers to the Basilica of Baños, on a journey marked by silence, penance, and reflection.

During the procession, participants often carry wooden crosses, images of the Virgin Mary, and candles as a sign of faith and gratitude.

The Ecuadorian National Police will be responsible for maintaining order and directing traffic in the area.
